This research aims at to understand the vision that the older brother of a child diagnosed with Down syndrome (DS) has of his family dynamics and to know as it is the relation between brothers, being one of them with DS. Five families composed for mother, father, older son and new son with DS had participated of the study. Interviews with the mother and the older brother and observation of the interaction between the brothers had been done. The analysis of the data was based on the phenomenological perspective. According with the literature exists aspects of the family dynamics that can be related to the DS and other unrelated ones. Positive aspects for having a brother with DS had been found. The necessity of studies prioritizing the paternal source of the family dynamics and the accomplishment of works directed to the brothers of special persons is presented.
