The author identifies four basic dimensions in the Mexican psychologist’s work, Rogelio Díaz-Guerrero (1918-2004): a) His earlier interest in building a Mexican’s psychology, begins with the publishing of Estudios de psicología del mexicano (1961) and it culminates 42 years later, with his book Bajo las garras de la cultura. Psicología del mexicano 2 (2003); b) the cultural orientation of his thought; c) his adhesion to the Transcultural Psychology, in reaction to the psychological ethnocentrism dominant at It’s time; and, d) his proposal of an Etnopsychology that leads to the elaboration of native psychologies. His voluminous work, elaborated with methodological rigorousness and sharp statistical analysis, It’s a message to the new promotions of Latin American psychologist. The present article is written by the author in homage to the friend and professional partner.
