Abstract

MENEZES, Igor Gomes  and  BASTOS, Antonio Virgílio Bittencourt. Psychometric properties of Behavioral Intentions to Remaining with the Organization Scale (BIROS). Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.10, n.3, pp. 800-817. ISSN 1808-4281.

A high level of organizational turnover generates costs of recruitment, training and development. Several theoretical models were designed to explain organizational turnover, and many attitudinal measures of intentions to stay or leave an organization were created in order to predict the phenomenon. Considering the lack of behavior-based instruments to measure turnover, this work aimed to develop and validate the Behavioral Intentions of Remaining with the Organization Scale (BIROS). To better understand the psychometric properties of BIROS, we selected 1,693 workers in the north, northeast and southern Brazil. From eight initial items, seven items met the validation criteria. BIROS is the first developed and validated measure to assess behavioral intentions to stay in an organization.

Keywords : Organizational commitment; Turnover; Behavioral intentions; Social construct validity.
