Abstract

RESENDE, Ana Cristina  and  ARGIMON, Irani Iracema de Lima. Schizophrenia and artistic creativity. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.3, pp. 755-775. ISSN 1808-4281.

This article constitutes itself as a theoretical study about schizophrenia and artistic creativity. The study was based on a survey of the scientific production in the databases Web of Science, PsycINFO and Medline for the last ten years, using the key words Schizophrenia and Creativity. The majority of the studies points out that the most probable fact is that the vulnerability for schizophrenia manifests several creative advantages because of its possible perceptual, cognitive and personality characteristics. However, the idea of a spectrum of schizophrenia to trigger artistic creativity is not defensible.

Keywords : Schizophrenia; Schizotypy; Artistic creativity.
