Abstract

COSTA, Tadeu Lessa da; OLIVEIRA, Denize Cristina de  and  FORMOZO, Gláucia Alexandre. Social representations about the person with HIV/AIDS between nurses: a mute zone study. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2012, vol.12, n.1, pp. 242-259. ISSN 1808-4281.

This study is quantitative, qualitative and descriptive to describe and analyze the content and structure of social representations about the person with HIV/AIDS between nurses. The subjects were 30 subjects/nurses at a university hospital in capital of the Rio de Janeiro/Brazil. Data were collected by Questionnaire of Characterization and technique of the Mise en Cause. The results indicated a process of representational change on HIV/AIDS and their patients, considering the displacement of the term death of the centrality to the periphery of the representation and the incorporation of treatment in that position. It was confirmed the existence of possible elements of mute zone in the representation in function of the counter-normativity. It was concluded that both techniques have contributed to a better understanding of the content and the structure of representations in focus, requiring greater investment in studies on the role of social norms in this process.
