Abstract

VENTURA, Mariela. Paradoxes in Psychology and Psychoanalysis during the dictatorship in Argentina. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2015, vol.15, n.2, pp. 784-790. ISSN 1808-4281.

This historical study discusses the relationship between psychoanalysis and the military dictatorship in Tucumán, Argentina, based on primary journalistic sources from La Gaceta newspaper (1976-1983), in addition to private files and key people's testimonies. Its objective was to analyse some paradoxes, since they are considered to be a powerful stimulus for reflection. Among them we can mention: the training of psychologists by doctors, which, in turn, did not enable them to do clinical practice; social legitimacy of professional practice long before its legalization; closed down public spaces but private teaching places remaining open; enactment of the Law of the Psychologist during the dictatorship; lack of acknowledgement of psychologists in the country compared to their status abroad. In conclusion, Psychoanalysis paradoxically endured through the dictatorship due to the ‘passion' aroused for it, which turned it into a safe ‘refuge' to bear the inexpressible.

Keywords : psychoanalysis; psychology; dictatorship; paradoxes.
