Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Nívia Lúcia de Andrade  and  OLIVEIRA, Isabel Fernandes de. Psychologists in social work: Evidence of their presence before SUAS. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.2, pp. 382-400. ISSN 1808-4281.

Psychologists are officially inserted in Social Work since the Sistema Único de Assistência Social's (Unified System of Social Work) regulatory marc. However, there are scattered records indicating their presence in the Social Work field before that period, such insertion was not systematized in the literature. This study aims to investigate in which Social Work areas the Psychologists acted in the period between 1972 and 2003 in Natal/RN. Psychology, as a profession, only appeared in Natal in 1972, and 2003 was the year before the historical regulatory marc was implanted, therefore justifying the temporal delimitation of the study. A documental research was made, where 86 monographs about the Social Work activities in Natal were consulted, in order to locate the psychologist’s presence in them. The results show this professional's insertion in 3 major areas: children with special need, the ‘under age’ discussion and kids and teens in social vulnerability.
