Despite this reality, there are a small number of Brazilian studies on the topic. The goal of this article was to characterize the national production and discuss the potential and limitations of studies developed in the Brazilian context to the understanding and management of turnover of professionals in work organizations. The method consists of a literature review on Brazilian turnover produced between 1980 and 2015, and unveiled at the Portal de Periódicos CAPES and the Scielo database. Fifty-nine articles were identified. The results showed that, despite the economic impact of turnover for organizations, individuals and society, national production about this topic as well as remain scarce is scattered in different centers in the country. There is a need to develop national instruments that enable research on turnover, as well as to expand the theme research contexts, involving different types of organization and methods of data collection and analysis.
