Abstract

SANTOS, Ana Pereira dos  and  ROMAGNOLI, Roberta Carvalho. Among embarrassments, performances and resistances: the development of women's domestic violence complaints at a police station. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2017, vol.17, n.2, pp. 454-474. ISSN 1808-4281.

The article presents a discussion of the development of women's domestic violence complaints at a police station in the city of Viçosa-MG. The objective is to understand how women's domestic violence complaints come about, while analyzing the different variables that affect the denunciation moment along with the parties involved. The study data was collected from an ethnography performed during six months and which formed part of a master's research. This study considered a set participatory research methods, monitored in-depth interviews with women during their police complaints and with the police officers, field diary records and document analysis produced by the institution. The results demonstrate that, even after the Maria da Penha Law, the women-granted assistance and police understanding of gender-based violence remains substantiated from patriarchal values and gender normative that favor male domination.

Keywords : violence; Maria da Penha Law; subjectivities.
