Abstract

SIQUEIRA, Beatriz Colabone  and  BOARINI, Maria Lucia. The "Woman's Nature" as Seen by the Physicians, Workers and Literati in the Beginning of the 20th Century. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.3, pp. 1000-1019. ISSN 1808-4281.

This study's objective is to reflect about the concept of woman transmitted by the literature, worker's press and scientific press in Brazil in the beginning of the 20th century. For that, the primary sources utilized were the working class newspaper "A Plebe" (1917-1951), the "Archivos Brasileiros de Hygiene Mental" (1925-1947) and two brazilian novels: "Parque Industrial" (1933), written by Patrícia Galvão and "O Quinze" (1930), by Rachel de Queiroz. The historic sources of any nature are of great value for the research, since they witnessed the historic moments in which they were produced, thus, supporting the knowledge production about that. The results indicate that there was an ideal of woman based on the existence of a feminine nature that means the natural aptitude of the woman for the care with the home and with the children.

Keywords : woman; worker's press; scientific press; brazilian literature.
