SOUZA, Fernanda Martins de; FIORINI, Milena Carolina  y  CREPALDI, Maria Aparecida. Relations between Coparenting, Parental Involvement and Parental Practices of Binuclear Families. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.2, pp. 519-539. ISSN 1808-4281.  http://dx.doi.org/10.12957/epp.2020.52584.

This study investigated the relationship between coparenting, parental involvement and parenting practices in the context of parents of binuclear families with children aged from 3 to 6 years. A quantitative and cross-sectional data survey was carried out, with 45 participants (24 mothers and 21 fathers). Low scores on father's and mother's coparenting were found, especially in the coparent's agreement, support and division of labor dimensions. Both parents showed good levels of parental involvement. Moreover, neither the low coparenting scores nor the high sabotage reported by parents influenced overall paternal involvement. Low scores on the coparenting division of labor were associated with increased maternal involvement and negative parenting practices by both mothers and fathers. These findings reinforce the need for intervention practices aimed at Brazilian binuclear families, in order to help them promote healthy relationships for the child and the family as a whole.

Palabras clave : childrearing practices; parenting style; marital separation; coparenting; parental involvement.
