Extension activities at the University are one of the pillars of the Brazilian higher education, along with teaching and research. Mindfulness-based programs offers to undergraduate students the opportunity to improve psychological and social skills for stress coping and health promotion in academic interactions. This work aims to report the experience of managing a university extension project of mindfulness-based programs for undergraduate students at a public university for three years. The report is organized according to project phases initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closing. Procedures were detailed, main challenges and perceived benefits were reported along with lessons learned. There was a high interest in the intervention, with more demand than places avaliable. The implementation of mindfulness programs in the university context depends on availability of resources and physical structure as also on qualification of the facilitator whom will deliver them. Finally, it is considered that such interventions are possible in the university context with recommendations on registering and formalizing it as an extension activity, evaluating available resources, considering academic calendar and on delivering it in line with the program curriculum.
