The aim of this study was to collect data on alcohol and drug consumption among a sample of college students from a University Center in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Participants were 1953 students from 27 different careers, 349 attending daytime classes and 1604 attending nighttime classes, 1007 (52%) women and 942 (48%) men (mean age: 20,6), 83,53% of the students were single. 1349 (69%) reported alcohol consumption, 28% smoked cigarettes, 19% used inhaling substances/solvents, 14% smoked marijuana, 8% used amphetamine without medical prescription, 5% used steroids, 4% used cocaine and 3% ecstasy. Conclusion: there is a high rate of alcohol consumption among college students and the most used illicit drug is marijuana. Prevention programs are important to help reduce alcohol and drug consumption and must be available during college years.
