Cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy practices have been proven efficient when treating Social Phobia. This term paper depicts the damages such psychopathology may cause to a patient’s life and highlights the importance of early intervention. Cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy during childhood presents two distinct interdependent approaches: intervention directly involving the child and intervention involving the family. In Social Phobia, parents’ involvement receives special attention, for family environment has been emphasized as key to acquiring social abilities. The psychologist must be attentive to parental variables that may disturb the treatment. Such variables shall be detected from the very beginning, so the intervention involving the child will have greater chances of success.
