Abstract

MANSO, Dina Susana da Silva  and  MATOS, Margarida Gaspar de. Depression, anxiety and substance use in adolescents. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2006, vol.2, n.1, pp. 73-84. ISSN 1808-5687.

The relations between depression, anxiety, ambiental factors and school performance had been studied in a sample of 344 adolescents, students of the secondary education schools from different points of the country, with a average of ages of 17 years (DP = 12,43), of which 147 belonged to masculine gender and 197 to the feminine gender. The used measures of evaluation had been the CDI (Kovacs, 1992), the MASC (March, 1997) and the QEA (Santos & Ribeiro, 2004). In the generality, the gotten results had allowed to support the hypotheses formulated in relation to the differences for different variables, such as the age, gender and the use of alcohol and tobacco, where it would be the young adults, the girls and those who consumed alcohol and tobacco with regularity that presents higher levels of depression and anxiety. On the other hand, the correlations had not evidenced relations that would be waited, such as the relation between anxiety and depression. The results had been argued in accordance with literature and its implications for the practical clinic.
