DUARTE, Aline Loureiro Chaves; NUNES, Maria Lúcia Tiellet y KRISTENSEN, Christian Haag. Maladaptative schemas: qualitative sustematic review. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2008, vol.4, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1808-5687.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (CBT) includes different approaches that share fundamental assumptions, as well as specific terminology. However, some core theoretical concepts - such as schema and beliefs - have been used with undue variability, causing imprecision and disturbing the communication between therapists. Therefore, this study’s goal was to conduct a systematic review of the concept “maladaptive schema” within the CBT literature. Twenty-three articles published between 2003 and 2005 were identified in the following databases: SciELO, Lilacs and PsycINFO, and were submitted to the judgment of field experts. The qualitative analysis of the 11 selected articles produced five categories. The outcomes showed an expressive number of articles using Jeffrey Young’s Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMS) terminology. Even more important, it was found a conceptual lack of precision regarding the use of schema and beliefs, as well as great variability among these concepts’ definitions. The outcomes are discussed in reference to the potential consequences to the theoretical development of CBT
