MAIA, Joviane Marcondelli Dias; DEL PRETTE, Almir  e  FREITAS, Lucas Cordeiro. Social skills of visually disabled people. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2008, vol.4, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1808-5687.

This work aims to characterize the repertoire of social skills of visually impaired individuals that attend a specialized institution and the differences in relation to the normative pattern. It analyzes the influence of the type and origin of visual impairment regarding repertoire, connecting it to socioeconomic variables, gender and age. Ten women and 19 men responded to the instruments: “Critério Brasil”, Initial Interview and a self-report inventory (IHS-del-Prette) (2001), with a structure of 5 factors. Among these students, 15 had total blindness and 14 low vision; 20 had acquired impairment and nine congenital; 17 were single and 12 married; 22 did not work and 7 worked in informal activities. The level of education ranged from none to Higher Education. Significant differences between the groups regarding the type of impairment, gender, socio-economic variables and marital status were not found. The younger they were, the higher the scores in the F4 (dealing with unknown people and new situations). The higher the level of education they had, the better results they obtained in F1 (coping and assertion) and F3 (talking and self-confidence) general and factorial scores. The participants who worked had greater aggressiveness self-control, and the participants with congenital impairment had better results in general scores and dealing with unknown people and new situations
