Abstract

GASPARETTO, Simone; BUSSAB, Vera Sílvia Raad  and  BARROS, Luísa. The constructivist-developmental perspective: constructing and implementing a methodology of didactical videos with mothers of preterms infants. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2008, vol.4, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1808-5687.

Studies on the adaptation of mothers of preterm newborns to the new situation show the importance of intervention programs for this population. The objective of this study was to develop a Constructivist-Developmental intervention program in which mothers are led to reflect on their feelings and on the development of their infants. The program uses a video that features three mothers of preterm newborns, exemplifying different cognitive levels, and ranging in flexibility and autonomy. From this exposure, reflection is promoted with the aim of developing attitudes and behavior that are more flexible and autonomous in dealing with such situations. Emphasis is on the initial difficulties and in the development of attachment and processing of feelings. The Constructivist-Developmental methodology asserts that the experience of having a preterm newborn affects the parent’s belief system. Therefore, this critical period can be understood as a stage especially suitable to preventive interventions that focus on the analysis and possible transformation of parental beliefs, promote lower rates of depression and anxiety and facilitate the development of an emotional bond
