Abstract

BARBOSA, Juliana Gennari; LUIZ, Andreia Mara Angelo Gonçalves; DOMINGOS, Neide Aparecida Micelli  and  FERNANDES, Luan Flávia Barufi. A waiting list group in anxiety ambulatory. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2008, vol.4, n.2, pp. 56-72. ISSN 1808-5687.

Anxiety disorders are among the most common disorders observed in the general population and in health care. This study had the intention to evaluate, from the patients’ point of view, the attendance in wait-list group in an anxiety disorders ambulatory. We observed 61 patients with a middle age of 42.30, the majority of which were female (70.5%). Results indicated that a great number of patients thought that the wait-list was important, mainly to learn more about the disease; talk about doubts and define anxiety as a manifestation of psychological aspects; in relation to feelings, most patients said that they felt hope after leaving the group, mentioned that the wait-list helped them with doubts about the illness and some of them made praises to the group. We concluded that the patients are satisfied with the attendance and consider the wait-list important and helpful, mainly in explaining doubts. We believe that new research in this area may complete the results obtained in this study
