PETERSEN, Circe Salcides; KOLLER, Silvia Helena; VASCONCELLOS, Doris  and  TEIXEIRA, Marco A. P.. A study of effectiveness: cognitive behavioral therapy for people living with HIV/AIDS. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2008, vol.4, n.2, pp. 90-109. ISSN 1808-5687.

This study investigated the effects of a Cognitive Behavioral group therapy (Eurovihta Project) applied with people living with HIV/AIDS. The sample was composed by 89 people living with AIDS in two groups: treated and non-treated. In the end of treatment the sample was composed by 30 patients only. The variables quality of life, depression, stress, social support, CD 4 and viral load were measured before and after intervention. The results showed a decrease in the depression scores and an increase of instrumental social support in the treated group. The variables CD4 and viral load did not show any relation with the psychological treatment. Implications of these results for HIV/AIDS outpatient services are presented
