Resumen

LUDWIG, Martha Wallig Brusius et al. Group intervention in patients with metabolic syndrome. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2010, vol.6, n.1, pp. 5-31. ISSN 1808-5687.

Over the past year has seen an increase of several criteria linked to metabolic syndrome (MS), such as increased blood pressure, obesity and diabetes. One of the most suitable treatments for MS is the change in lifestyle (physical exercise and balanced diet), which is not easily achieved. Thus, the role of the psychologist may be essential to reinforce motivation to change by the Transtheoretical Model of Change (TTM). This article aims to achieve an experience of two groups that were subjected to an intervention group based on TTM, along with an interdisciplinary team. This intervention was part of the Program for Lifestyle Change to Cardiovascular Risk, lasted six months, and included men and women volunteers between 30 and 59 years diagnosed with MS. From all reports, it is evident that an interdisciplinary intervention in search results on the change of life style and in patients with MS is a promising method for treatment and prevention. It was observed that adherence to healthier lifestyle is shaped a complex change as it covers a wide range of ingrained behaviors and values related to cultural, personal and family
