This paper aims to present a systematization proposal of the cognitive conceptualization process based on the literature, and on clinical and supervision practice in the education of cognitive behavioral therapists. The cognitive conceptualization is a technique of case comprehension and treatment compliance by the client. In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to conceptualize a case means to give an overview of how the client works and to propose the most effective intervention form. The correct application of this psychotherapeutic feature requires technical expertise, as well as a solid base knowledge about assumptions and underlying theory. Initially, some CBT assumptions will be discussed. The second focus of this paper is to present a literature review about cognitive case conceptualization and its challenges in clinical practice. Finally, a systematization proposal about practical activity on cognitive conceptualization will be presented, aiming to help less experienced therapists with the practice of conceptualizing their client's case, independent of disorders and/or symptomatology they may present.
