Abstract

This paper concerns about the development of the body image in contemporary western culture and in its treatment, which aims to improve the perception the individual has about themselves, from the perspective of Cognitive Behavior Theory. From the definition of body image and reflection of how people can be influenced by the current context is evident from the psychotherapeutic process, context and practice. The method was the bibliographic research of authors in the subject matter and on sites of scientific database, elucidated with examples of clinical cases chosen by the relation with the subject in question. It can be inferred that the psychotherapeutic process in disorders linked to dissatisfaction with weight and body shape represents a clinical challenge and concluded that CBT can help in relieving symptoms of the patients who have distorted perception of body image.
