Abstract

TINOCO, Gesiane Agostinho Barbosa; LOPES, Renata Ferrarez Fernandes  and  LOPES, Ederaldo José. Neuroticism, emotions and risk behaviors in outpatients. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2011, vol.7, n.2, pp. 8-16. ISSN 1808-5687.

This study investigated the relationship among emotions, neuroticism and risk behavior in users of a mental health public service, in a cognitive-behavioral view. Twenty people, aged in about 40.3 years old, took part in this study. They were diagnosed with personality and mood disorders, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder and addictive behavior. Neuroticism Factorial Scale , Risk Behavior Scale and reports on risk behaviors (scripts) were used as instruments. Results show that social, health and legal-ethic risk behaviors presented positive correlations with psychosocial maladjustment and anxiety. Angry presented positive correlation with intentions to engage in social and health risk behaviors. These results are important for prevention and intervention programs, which should take into account the risk multidimensional nature.

Keywords : neuroticism; outpatients; risk behavior.
