Abstract

Exposure to trauma in childhood is risk factors for the children and adolescents development. Researches have attempted to identify the psychological and neurobiological mechanisms by which exposure to trauma results negatively on the individual and also attempted develop psychological interventions to treating victims. This article aims to relate the exposure to childhood trauma and the development of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and describe models of cognitive-behavioral intervention and reported in the literature for PTSD in children and adolescents. For this, we carried out a literature review. The article discusses the following topics: definition of abuse; effects findings from the exposure to maltreatment, in particular the development of PTSD, and description of interventions based on cognitive-behavioral therapy for patients with PTSD.
