Abstract

ZWIELEWSKI, Graziele  and  SANT'ANA, Vânia. A grief protocol details and the cognitive behavior therapy applicability. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2016, vol.12, n.1, pp. 27-34. ISSN 1808-5687.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20160005.

This article describes details of sessions taken place for a case study of a female patient going through a grieving process for her son, using cognitive behavioral psychology as the theoretical basis. The objective of this article is to present the intervention of the clinical case: the list of cognitive distortions linked to the grief, the challenge of dysfunctional thinking, inventory scores used and coping card built with the patient. It describes the step by step in the care of a grieving patient and proves the effectiveness of the chosen protocol for the care of this patient. The results show that after the implementation of the brief protocol, focused and structured, there was significant improvement in the interpretation of the patient regarding the death of her son. This ability was evidenced by a greater capacity for understanding and reassessment of interpretations, by the carrying out of functionally more effective behaviors in the production of reinforcing consequences for the patient in face of missing her son, and more positive emotions.
