DELABRIDA, Zenith Nara Costa; SANTOS, Carla Mayra de Jesus  e  BARLETTA, Janaína Bianca. Social skills, stress, academic performance in university collective houses. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2018, vol.14, n.1, pp. 21-30. ISSN 1808-5687.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20180004.

This study investigated the Social Skills (SS) of university students living in shared houses. It was evaluated whether there are differences in SS in terms of the type of university shared house: "residences" or "republics". In addition, we investigated how SS are related to the perception of academic performance and perceived stress. A total of 131 college students participated 66.4% females and mean age of 20.71 (SD = 2.03) years-old, 69.5% living in university shared houses called "residences" and 30.5% living in university shared houses called "republics". A greater assertive ability and self-control of aggressiveness in students living in "residences" were observed, although in all groups there was a deficit of assertiveness and elaborate repertoire of self-control. The degree of social skills is a predictor of the perception of academic performance with the mediation of stress level. As characteristics of each type of dwelling may be related to a greater or lesser requirement for social performance. The study data can contribute to an improvement in the dynamics of collective housing, reducing interpersonal conflicts, increasing the well-being of a successful academic adaptation.
