The Schema Therapy (TE) has been shown to be effective for the treatment of clinical cases associated with marital suffering. This study aimed to present an investigation of the search for clinical treatment associated to the suffering of the marital relationship from the viewpoint of TE. We analyzed 33 medical records of patients attended at a school clinic in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre between 2004 and 2009. The sample consisted of 26 women and 7 men, with an average age of 39 years. A descriptive analysis was performed to identify of the sample profile and then carried out a content analysis was performed on the TE approach. The results indicate that most of the patients were married, employed, had completed high school and reported problems of relationship between parents and children, as well as difficulty in interpersonal relationships and symptoms of mood and anxiety. The results of the content analysis indicated the formation of six categories: insecurity in the marriage bond, subjugation, transgenerationality, doubts about the conjugal relationship and conjugal violence. Understanding about marital partners in distress allows us to understand and prevent future marital conflicts.
