Abstract

Depression is today the leading cause of disability in the world. For most individuals, the disorder is chronic and recurrent and can lead to suicide. There are several types of treatments prescribed for depression, among them, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has its effectiveness proven by research. The cycle of activity reduction is one of the most important maintainers of the problem, because it acts as a feedback loop in which the individual, due to depressed mood, reduces their activities by losing the reinforces resulting from them, aggravating their depressive state. The aim of this study was to illustrate a process of CBT interventions on the maintenance cycle of reduction of activities of a depressive patience thought a case report at individual psychotherapy. The case study was performed with a male patient, 24 years old, single and childless. The main interventions used were: psychoeducation, daily activity diary, list of pleasurable activities and recording and evaluation of automatic thoughts and beliefs. It was observed that when interrupting the cycle of reduction of activities, the patient had his mood improved, acquired cognitive flexibility and presented more functional behaviors, regaining achievements in several areas of life.
