This study is based on Jeffrey Young's theory and aims to study the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and dyadic adjustment in conjugality. The sample consisted of 77 participants, and the instruments used were: Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS), and Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ-S3). The results point to 27 correlations among early maladaptive schemas and factors of the dyadic adjustment scale. In the schema domains of disconnection and rejection, impaired autonomy and performance, and directedness towards others there were significant correlations with the cohesion, consensus and expression of affection factors of the Dyadic Adjustment Scale. Besides, the impaired limits domain correlated significantly with the expression of affection and consensus factors. Finally, the overvigilance and inhibition domain correlated significantly with the expression of affection, cohesion and marital satisfaction factors. These results indicate that there is a relationship between early maladaptive schemas and dyadic adjustment. Given the results found, it is important to highlight that the study about personality development, more specifically about early maladaptive schemes, can be highly relevant when working with marital relationships.
