RUCKERT, Monique Lauermann Tassinari; FRIZZO, Rafaela Petrolli  e  RIGOLI, Marcelo Montagner. Suicide: the importance of new postvention studies in Brazil. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2019, vol.15, n.2, pp. 85-91. ISSN 1808-5687.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20190013.

Suicide is a public health problem that has resulted in an increase in deaths worldwide. The bereaved relatives are cited in the literature as survivors, with an estimated 5 to 10 people being seriously affected by each death resulting from the suicide act. However, the term has been expanded to the contacts individuals have made throughout their lives, including colleagues, friends and professionals, thereby increasing that estimate. These impacted individuals present different symptoms and ways of dealing with suffering, such strategies to assist in the resolution of the grieving process, including the discouragement of suicidal ideation or planning, as well as counseling professionals and family members about ethical and bureaucratic issues are called Postvention. The objective of this study is to evaluate existing Postvention materials and provide a broader view of procedures and reflections on what to do after the death of a family member or patient and which interventions are most effective with suicide mourners. We have few services to support survivors and research on the subject here in Brazil, it is necessary to promote a listening, welcoming and informative space to strengthen the mental health of bereaved.
