DEUS, Andrey Carvalho de  e  FAVA, Débora Cristina. Developing civility and empathy in childhood by means of music. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2019, vol.15, n.2, pp. 120-125. ISSN 1808-5687.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20190017.

Pre-school is an environment that aims to stimulate the development of social skills that can reflect in the good relationship between peers and in the prevention of future problems. The inclusion of music in children's education, beyond the fostering of artistic creativity, is a mean by which students consolidate diverse learning. The practice described is derived from an undergrad traineeship report in school psychology and aimed to foster social skills, specifically empathy and civility, in children aged 3 to 4 through music. Four focus groups of approximately one hour, one each week, were held with six children from a preschool, in which children's songs were used as triggers for reflections on intervention themes. Data were collected through field diary by the trainee. The behaviors observed during eight weeks after the intervention point that it helped to promote attitudes of empathy and civility in the relationship among participants, compared to the behaviors previously issued by the children. It is expected to contribute to a discussion of the importance of developing social skills in preschool settings to improve social behavior.
