SILVA, Lucilene Prado; VANDENBERGHE, Luc Adhemar e DEMARZO, Marcelo Piva. Mindfulness-based interventions for the couple relationship: an integrative review. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2020, vol.16, n.2, pp. 68-74. ISSN 1808-5687. http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20200011.
Daily life conflicts and misunderstandings in couple relationships constitute a health problem for a large section of the population. On the other hand, relationship satisfaction tends to mitigate the impact of negative life events. Mindfulness means focusing ones awareness on the present moment, acknowledging and accepting ones feelings, thoughts, and sensations. It refers to how we relate to our body, our mind, our past, our self and our relationships. The present article is an integrative revision of international studies that evaluate the effects of mindfulness-based interventions on the couple relationship. Nine studies found in the PubMed data base between 2000 and 2019 suggest that participating in such programs improves relationship satisfaction, connection with the partner, emotional balance, empathy, communication, and reduces stress, emotional reactivity and conflicts. We conclude that mindfulness-based interventions may be recommended to promote quality of the couple relationship.
