Abstract

RESENDE, Kênia Izabel David Silva de; TEODORO, Maycoln Leôni Martins; BARROS, Víviam Vargas de  and  OHNO, Priscilla Moreira. The effects of Mindfulness-Based Interventions on the mental health of university students: a systematic review study. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2021, vol.17, n.1, pp. 2-15. ISSN 1808-5687.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20210002.

Epidemiological data indicate that psychiatric symptoms in university students have more expressive rates compared to peers outside the university. In recent years, mindfulness-based interventions have stood out as effective interventions in the field of mental health with satisfactory outcomes and, therefore, have been used in areas such as higher education. A systematic review study was carried out with systematic searches in the Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, PubMed and Lilacs databases with controlled and uncontrolled descriptors. 1.548 publications were identified, but only 18 met the following eligibility criteria: randomized clinical trial (RCT) design, target population of university students, intervention based on the MBSR and / or MBCT mindfulness programs, to be carried out in person and with meetings weekly. The results showed that mindfulness-based interventions showed significant or moderately significant effects on their analysis variables (anxiety, depression, stress and mindfulness), showing themselves as promising interventions for intervention and health promotion in academia.

Keywords : mindfulness; students; clinical trial.
