Abstract

MANFROI, Edi Cristina; TEODORO, Maycoln Leôni Martins; FARIAS, Heitor Blesa  and  CAMILO, Lucas Lacerda. The use of the autobiographic memory narrative as a resource for increasing self-awareness. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2021, vol.17, n.1, pp. 22-31. ISSN 1808-5687.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20210004.

The effect of narrative and feedback on life history in increasing self-awareness was assessed using the Self- Reflection and Insight Scale (SRIS). To collect the autobiographical memories (AM), we used a model called the Narrative of the Timeline (NT). This is a study with a randomized clinical trial design with three groups in which 64 adults participated. The data were analyzed in Program R. Firstly, tests of differences between groups were performed for non-parametric samples and no significant results were obtained. Then effect sizes between the clinical and active groups were calculated using Cohens d, and it was found that only in the self-reflection dimension a moderate effect size was obtained. In order to verify the impact of feedback from individual changes, analyzes were performed using the JT Method with the clinical group (the group that received the life history feedback), which found that most participants showed clinically significant changes (positive or negative) after the interventions. The self-reflection dimension obtained the greatest clinically positive gains when compared to the Insight dimension. Finally, we concluded that feedback´s tool has the greatest impact in promoting an increase the Self-Reflection dimension.
