Abstract

SAMPAIO, Mariana Miranda Autran. Neutrality in therapeutic relationship: reflections based on Gestalt-therapy. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2004, vol.56, n.1, pp. 50-57. ISSN 1809-5267.

This paper intends to contemplate the theme of psychologist neutrality in clinician practice, discussing its feasibility and necessity. Its objective is to reflect about psychologist's action as a therapist and as human being in the psycotherapic practice. If the neutrality seams to be too distant and unattainable, on the other hand, a psychologist that talks about his or her life, using the therapy setting with his or her own problems, feelings and opinions would be inopportune as well. Gestalt-therapy uses phenomenology as human seeing and as a method, taking its concepts to clinician practice. This way, it establishes some concepts, founded on phenomenology, humanism and existentialism that give a direction to the psychologist’s practice.

Keywords : Therapeutic relationship; Neutrality; Phenomenology; Gestalt-therapy.
