Abstract

ALENCAR, Heloisa Moulin de  and  TAILLE, Yves de La. Humiliation: disrespect on moral degradation. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2007, vol.59, n.2, pp. 217-231. ISSN 1809-5267.

The proposal of the present work is to approach the theme of humiliation, defined as moral degradation. It is about the intention of making someone feel inferior, of diminishing someone. It is therefore, a theme of moral interest. We divided this article into three big sections. On the first one, we shall mention some examples of humiliation and we shall emphasize the importance of studying this theme. On the second one, we shall deal with some theoretical concepts related to the pertaining theme, that is: the notion of respect, kinds of humiliation as to their form and content and, finally, the relationship of the concept of humiliation with that of shame and honor. On the third section, our objective was to present a review on the literature of researches made in Brazil related to the theme in question. Finally, the sequence which finalizes this work, deals with some characteristics which can be analyzed on studies about humiliation. In a preliminary but instigating way we make evident the need for new researches.
