Abstract

CALAZANS, Roberto  and  LUSTOZA, Rosane Zétola. The psychological medicalization: life and health concepts. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.60, n.1, pp. 124-131. ISSN 1809-5267.

This article intends to discuss the ideological and theoretical assumptions supporting the accusations currently made to psychoanalysis that it wouldn`t be a scientific praxis and it would be a inefficacious technique. Such critics nowadays are inserted in a project of medicalization of the psychic aiming to treat psychopatology according the same parameters used in the definition of the organic illness. Examining the notions that give theoretical support to medicalization - that is, health and life - the authors want to demonstrate the epistemological fragility of such notions. The aim is to show that health and life must not be mobilized in order to discredit psychoanalysis because they’re not scientific notions.

Keywords : Psychoanalysis; Medicalization; Health; Life.
