Abstract

CORSINI, Leonora Figueiredo. Authority, family and therapy: discussing authority in the context of social and family relationships. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.60, n.1, pp. 140-151. ISSN 1809-5267.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss authority within a conceptual and theoretical frame that encompasses the perspectives of Social Psychology, Political Philosophy and Sociology, as well as the systemic approach to the research and practice of Family Therapy. Working with the contributions delivered by authors such as Serge Moscovici, Hannah Arendt, Richard Sennett, and investigators and therapists adopting the systemic-constructionist perspective, our connecting thread in this study is the emotional quality of the link of authority. We also address the implications of the changes and reconfigurations of authority and power relations taking place in the terrain of social and family groups.

Keywords : Authority; Power relations; Social and emotional links; Family therapy.
