RESENDE, Augusto C. R.  and  ORTEGA, Antonio C.. Professional area and conscience building process. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.60, n.2, pp. 172-186. ISSN 1809-5267.

This research investigated with the aid of Piaget’s clinical method, the influence of two professional areas on the conscience building process of the strategies used for the resolution of a problem with the Tower of Hanoi game. It is a descriptive research involving qualitative and quantitative aspects. Fifteen students of the course on Civil Engineering took part, as well as fifteen others from the Psychology course of the Federal University of Espírito Santo. The research developed itself in three stages: (1) a resolution of the problem within the towers with 2, 3, 4 and 5 discs; (2) an analysis of regularities between the number of displacement of each tower; (3) an interview as to the strategies used. The main results showed that: (a) on the making level, the Civil Engineering students reached a better mastership of the game system, and (b) on the level of understanding the Psychology students showed a relative superiority when conceptualizing the strategies used for the solution of the problem.
