Some possibilities of approaching suicide through the ideas of Durkheim and those of Psychoanalysis are brought forward. The concepts of subject and social tie are discussed in these theories, with emphasis on similarities end differences between them. We discuss the possibility of studying suicide as an unpredictable individual act without losing its perspective as a social phenomenon
