Abstract

CORTEZ, Mirian Béccheri  and  SOUZA, Lídio de. Marital violence according to men who were denounced by their female partners. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.62, n.2, pp. 129-142. ISSN 1809-5267.

This study investigated the conceptions about marital/affective relationships, violence episodes and masculine and feminine roles of 4 men who had been denounced for beating their female partners. Data were collected via interviews and analyzed via software Alceste and Bardin Analysis of Contend. Data demonstrated predominance of traditional gender concepts and minimization of physical and emotional consequences of violence to wives, themselves and to their relationships. We discuss the participants difficults on dealing with their partners behaviors, which they believe are inappropriate for a good woman.Violence is used to control their partners and also to preserve traditional masculinity.
