Abstract

BRUNS, Maria Alves de Toledo. New psychotherapists: challenges regarding affective-sexual diversities. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2011, vol.63, n.1, pp. 64-74. ISSN 1809-5267.

This article is a report of a supervision experience with cases of clients with affective-sexual claims brought to me by psychotherapists adopting the Person-centered approach developed by Carl Rogers (1902-1987) and the Gestalt Therapy, by Fritz Perls (1893-1970). Its aim is to foster a critical reflection upon a gap in new psychotherapists’ education regarding the contemporary sexual diversity in an interface with the existential phenomenological paradigm pondering that contemporary individuals have been experiencing profound transformation in their lebenswelt, lifeworld, in their affective, emotional and sexual relationships which dialectically reflect their imprisonment to the paradigm of sexual pleasure as to abominate frustrations and conflicts, crises inherent to the horizons of an individual’s development. The article establishes a critical-reflexive dialog with authors committed to researching such issues, who have been pointing out the impasse and challenges of the contemporary clinic.

Keywords : New therapists; Professional education; Sexual diversities; Phenomenology; Contemporary clinic.
