Abstract

MONTEIRO, Camila Fonteles d'Almeida  and  TEIXEIRA, Leônia Cavalcante. Family and reproductive technologies: considerations on generational psychic transmission. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2011, vol.63, n.2, pp. 92-101. ISSN 1809-5267.

This study aimed to discuss the psych generational transmission in the settings of families originated from medically assisted reproduction. The debate of this issue reminds us of issues such as infertility, desire to have children, current technical-scientific discourse and how the power of biomedicine operates. The study of these issues was held from bibliographic search focusing on psychoanalytic theory. The psychoanalysis brings back the dimension of subjectivity, desire, sexuality and filiation as symbolic integration, highlighting what is transmitted in the family through unconscious processes. What is important to the subject’s development is the transmission, through maternal and paternal roles, of the fundamental interdictions and the law of desire, so that each one can subjectivate and insert oneself into the culture.

Keywords : Family; Psychoanalysis; Medically assisted reproduction; Psych transmission.
