CARNEIRO, Terezinha Feres; LISBOA, Aline Vilhena  y  MAGALHAES, Andrea Seixas. Family generational psychic transmission in somatic sickening. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2011, vol.63, n.2, pp. 102-113. ISSN 1809-5267.

This study presents a discussion on the process of family psychic transmission and its possible influence in somatic sickening. The goal is to understand somatization from the transmission of an unrepresented legacy among generations. Sickening is understood as the family psychic suffering resulting from non elaborated contents that would generate obstacles in relationships. Illness is conceived as the result of abandonment and fragility, marked by histories told through generations, preventing affective investment. On the other hand, the impacting condition of becoming ill can lead family members to re-elaborate conflicts and re-tell their own histories. Family therapist’s analytic listening makes it possible to understand the repressed material present in myths, censuring, and family secrets. From this standpoint, family clinic facilitates the retaking, the re-elaboration, and the strengthening of psychological processes, aiming at promoting the group’s emotional health.

Palabras clave : Psychic transmission; Somatic sickening; Family history; Psychoanalytic family therapy.
