The aim of this study was to review the scientific production that addresses the associations between children´s temperament and the parents´ marital relationship. A survey of the scientific production in national and international databases was conducted using pre-established descriptors. The research was restricted to scientific articles published from 1980 to 2010. Categories were created to analyze these studies. All the work analyzed employed empirical research with quantitative data analysis. Most of the articles emphasized the impact of the children´s temperament on the parents´ marital relationship. The importance of considering the family context in psychological research is discussed, given the interrelationships between family subsystems.
