Abstract

CALAZANS, Roberto  and  LUSTOZA, Rosane Zétola. Psychic symptom and evidence based medicine. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2012, vol.64, n.1, pp. 18-30. ISSN 1809-5267.

Evidence-based Medicine is a new methodology which intends to organize the clinical medicine. It is based on the assumption that the clinic of psychopathologies also should be guided by an ideal of objectivity. The article intends to critically evaluate the proposal of evidence-based Medicine, condemning the abusive extension of this model to the field of psychotherapies and psychoanalysis. To this end, the assumptions of this project will be examined and then its limitations will be discussed, especially regarding its definition of what would be a psychic symptom. Based on the psychoanalysis of Freud and Lacan, it is argued that the extrapolation of evidence-based Medicine's method to other areas runs the risk of accentuating the misery of the subject, not knowing precisely the subject's implication in the symptom.

Keywords : psychic symptom; evidence-based medicine; psychoanalysis; clinical method.
