Abstract

The paper proposes a conceptual elaboration of the complex articulation that lies underneath the angst theory by J. Lacan. The main discussion focuses on the logical point in which angst affects the subject's experience. Starting from the division of the subject as related to language operation, it argues that angst is located in a logical temporality, as previous to desire. After having set up the place of desire in the structure of the signifier, it handles with the relation between the default that constitutes the symbolic dimension and the loss that constitutes the object a for the subject. Finally, referring to the piercing effectiveness of the signifier that creates the pulsional body and detaches the object, the article establishes angst precipitation as a logical moment, in which the irreversible default of the signifier chain can become the grounds to the subject's issue.
