Abstract

One of the functions related to early childhood education is to integrate cognitive and emotional aspects of children and to prepares them for entring into formal education. According to theses assumptions, psychological intervention and children groups were carried out, besides a joint work with teachers. These activities had the propose of preparing children for entring into the first grade of primary education. In total, 27 children from five to six years old, who enrolled in a nonprofit day care center, participated of this study. The School Readiness Test Lollipop was applied in two periods of year (beginning and final). The statistical analysis has showed that there were differences in the their performance in relation to school readiness because many of them improved their performance in the second application. It is important to emphasize the importance of children, in groups, express their expectations, and test their skills thus improving jointly emotional and cognitive aspects.
