Abstract

KOSOVSKI, Gisele Falbo. Self-image construction, destabilization and adolescence. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2014, vol.66, n.1, pp. 61-71. ISSN 1809-5267.

Having as its theoretical basis Freud's work and Lacan's teaching, this paper brings, as main issue, the self-image construction process and the destabilizations of the image which, often, comes along with the onset of adolescence. Assuming that the function of the I doesn't develop on its own, has permeable borders and is built upon its relation to the Other, we examine the self-image construction process through freudian reflections about narcissism, added to Lacan's contributions over the optical scheme and the Mirror Stage in its interaction with castration and the subjectivity of the absence. Finally, we present a brief analysis of the dialogue between Wendla and her mother, in the first scene of the Wedekind´s major play "Spring Awakening", in order to situate the image's destabilization in adolescence as a result of the breakdown between the virtual image and the real image in relation to the Other's gaze.

Keywords : Psychoanalysis; Body; Image; Adolescence.
